Beer Butt Chicken

So I decided it was time to “pop a top” and instead of tipping up and drinking the whole can, that I would drink about a quarter of it and then sit my chicken on the can to absorb what was left of that goodness while heating up on my grill! Yup, tonight we had Beer Butt Chicken.

I had a premixed Mesquite rub, so instead of making my own tonight, I decided to go the easy route. After I cleaned my chicken, I rubbed him down with the mesquite, sat him on a can of Bud Light that was about 3/4 full and put him on a preheated grill for about 1-1/2 hours. The temp was at about 350 for the entire time the chicken sat there. I’d say he was pretty “steamed” by the time I took him off!! I served this with the red skinned oven roasted potatoes and some steam fresh veggies straight from the microwave. Pretty good dinner if I say so myself!

I have some other news. Some of you may remember I lost Peabody not too long ago. It really broke my heart. He can never be replaced, there can never be another Peabody. BUT, we have a visitor this weekend, who probably will become a permanent fixture in our home. He arrived with the name of Alvin, but after spending time with him, Grumpy has renamed him “Ratatouille”. Can you guess why?? :-p Here is a pic of him….he’s a cutie and a lover and has fit right in. Chubby is even over his initial hissiness.

Now, last, but not least – I am the recipient of yet another award! Vickie of Frenchy Addict has given me the Brillante Weblog Award. I am not even sure how I came across Vickie’s blog, but I have been following it along since I found it. I love her photos and reading about her, her family, gardens, pets, etc! Cathy of the Noble Pig – Not a day goes by that I haven’t noticed that Cathy has taken the time to read my li’l ole blogposts. Cathy has a great sense of humor and I love reading her blog. She is funny AND informative! I may actually learn something about wine now! So whether you want a good laugh, or want to become more knowlegable about wine, stop by Cathy to say hi!

Barbara of Barbara Bakes – I met Barbara through Daring Bakers. She was lucky enough to spend her 30th anniversary celebration for two weeks in Italy! Barbara loves to use Cooking Light recipes as do I. She also has been making cookies from Martha Stewarts new Cookies cookbook. We seem to be on the same wavelength here! She has a great blog, you should go check it out!

Jennie of My Cake Wardrobe – have you seen her blog? It is very eye catching! Her food has as much style I imagine her clothing designs! Check out her blog for some really gorgeous looking cookies, cakes, and desserts!

Susan of She’s Becoming DoughMessTic
– I recently came across her blog through Tuesdays with Dorie. I am super impressed with her blog and her photos. Not only that, she is organizing a group of bloggers called Operation GALS (Give A Little Support). This group will be making treats to ship to troops over in Iraq. Susan really deserves this award 3 fold! Check out her blog, you will be glad you did!

Clumbsy Cookie
– Huh, I don’t know her by anything other than Clumbsy Cookie! But that is ok! She has a very eye catching blog with eye catching food and recipes! She is so innovative! Check her out – she actually made chocolate chip chips for a cookie….

Kathy of Panini Happy
– When I found her blog I was so excited! For my CFY/EFY weekends that I cook, I like to find new and different meals. My last weekend I tried panini and they were a hit. I now am looking for new (vegetarian) versions of panini – and Kathy’s blog fits the bill! Check her out for some great panini ideas, along with some great photos! (They literally make me drool!)

I want to give honorable mention to Jenny of The Picky Palate -She has received this award already, but I am really inspired by her blog! When I first found Jenny’s blog, I envied her kitchen…then I read her little blurb that it was her dream kitchen. lol. I guess we all have those “dreams” don’t we?! Jenny has great recipes, awesome photos, and shares a bit of her life with us on her blog. I love her recipes for the ease of making them and they are great to have on hand when you don’t have a lot of time. If you haven’t been to Jenny’s blog (and it would be hard for me to believe that you haven’t been there) then you really should check it out!

    This beer butt chicken sounds yummy & I love it that it's easy!!!! Your photo is great b/c it perfectly illustrates how we are to make this ourselves (I was confused at first). Awards & kittens too?!?! My, my life is good in your neck of the woods.

    Beer Butt chicken is, in my opinion, the best way to cook chicken period. It always ends up so moist! My partner just got a Weber grill for his birthday, so I’m hoping that I’ll get my own beer butt chicken one of these weekends. And your new cat is SO. Cute.
