Chocolate Whopper Malted Drops

This week for Tuesdays with Dorie, Rachel of Confessions of a Tangerine Tart chose, Chocolate Whopper Malted Drops on page 85 of Dorie Greenspan's Baking cookbook. To view the recipe you can visit Rachel's blog.

These cookies went together fast, baked up soft and chewy, and were delicious. I had a hard time eating just one. I'm not even sure if Chris got one - Grumpy had just one! I hoarded them in the freezer, stole a few here and there and the rest went to work so there were cookies for seminar. (homemade - if the grads complain about the cookies they will starve from that point on! ha!)

I made the following substitutions:

2/3 of the whoppers were chocolate whoppers
1/3 of the whoppers were the new peanut butter flavored whoppers
instead of chocolate chunks I dumped in what I had left of the Kraft Caramel bits

I think the caramel bits are better in a brownie than a cookie. I don't like how the caramel kind of burns if it hit the outside edge of a cookie. In the future, I wouldn't add the caramel bits. BUT despite that - the cookies were delicious!

To view what other TWD participants did with their cookie, check out our blogroll.

Gosh, they sure do sound good! I didn't even know that whoppers came in peanut butter flavor. Now that's just dangerous. These candy people need to stop!

Oooh... the caramel bits sound good. It seems like a lot of people used the peanut butter whoppers, and I didn't even know they existed. I guess I have something to try for next time!

I used the pb whoppers too and loved them. Caramel bits seem like they would be delish here. I'll have to try them in a brownie.

I bet the PB whoppers and chocolate cookies were yummy. I wasn't a huge fan of these cookies but maybe if I switch out for some PB whoppers I might change my mind? :)

Mmmm, I think I would have liked the peanut butter whoppers. I know what you mean about hoarding them... I finally gave hubs a bowlful and told them to hide them from me! LOL.

Nice job!

Love your choice of peanut butter whoppers. I may just have to try all the whopper flavors and my freezer will hold them all.

I love your combination for the cookies! Yum! I also am partial to caramel but I can understand not wanting to see burnt caramel on the outside edges =). Your Whopper combination makes me want to make the cookies again. =D

Excellent job! - I fancy using PB next time for the PB lovers at work. Good idea to put them in the freezer out of sight.
