Sunday with the Grumpy's 8.3.14

There has been quite a bit happening here in the last week.  Life is so busy sometimes you just don't have the time to do everything you want to do!  Let me just share a little bit of what's been happening.

We took Rudy to the vet last weekend for his check up and shots.  He was the last of our three kitties to go and when we picked him up to put him in the carrier to take him we told him that he had been so concerned about Chubby and Kitty when we took them out in the carrier that he was now going to find out why :)

While Grumpy had to hold him to keep him still at the vet office, he still gave him some loving comfort while we were waiting for the vet to get his business together :)
Later that weekend Rudy finally figured out how to get the treat ball to work.  I just love watching him.  ha ha.  How did I turn into such a cat lover?  It must have been Grumpy rubbing off because I never loved a cat the way I have since Grumpy came into my life.  Watch this video Grumpy took of Rudy working the treat ball.  I love it!
Tuesday came and Grumpy took a quick trip to Wilmington, NC to bring Chris back home.  He arrived at the airport, Chris picked him up, they went to Chris' place and loaded a U-Haul, then promptly drove right straight home.  I shipped Grumpy off on Tuesday morning and by Wednesday morning he was back home already and I was able to hug my boy before I went to work that day.
That morning was the first time I hugged my boy since I said good bye to him last July.  Sure felt good to see him again!  He definitely looked a little different this year than he did last.  No more mohawk and this year he has glasses.  He's still pretty darned handsome if I do say so myself.  :)  Yep.  I have proud Momma Syndrome and I'm not afraid to admit it!

We took Chris out to dinner at Texas Roadhouse on Friday night and on Saturday morning I said "see you later" to him as he went on the last leg of his trip to his temporary home back in Hermon.
Probably the hardest thing to see as a parent is your child driving away...now I know how my mom and dad probably feel every time I am leaving their home after a visit.  Heartbreaking...
After Chris left I decided I was going to get out of the house and go to the Troy Waterfront Farmer's Market.  I went by myself, Grumpy was not up to nor into going with me.  I did not have a bad time, it was probably good to have some alone me time.

Tried out the Lucyjo Coffee and loved it.  I picked up an iced coffee and was pretty pleased to find out they used coffee ice cubes to cool the coffee rather than plain ice.  Definitely makes me want to go back and keep this product in my resources for future use!
I also found some cheese curd.  I haven't had fresh cheese curd in a long time and this is probably the closest I will ever get to it again.  Back home we used to go to the factory itself the day they made the curd.  If you have never experienced curd fresh from the vat, you do not know what you are missing.  You don't eat it cold, it just kills what cheese curd is.  This curd I took home after eating a few pieces and will microwave it just a little bit to bring the softness and squeek out.
I decided when I left the market that I needed to see if Shannon, my hairdresser was at the shop to get my haircut.  I'm really bad about haircuts.  I will let my hair get really long (well, long for me nowdays) and then get it cut drastically short.  ha ha.  I love Shannon, she has never given me a bad cut.  For that reason, I placate her when she wants to brush my hair out.  Something I never do, I scrunch and dry to bring what curl I have out if I can!  Yesterday she bobbed my hair, and when done cutting even though she put that curl cream in, she decided to take her brush to it.  ha ha.  She knows I don't like it, but I really didn't care yesterday.  I had just said goodbye to my son, I enoyed the brushing and massaging.  Here is her result.  Take a good look, it probably won't look like this again.  ha ha
When I got home, Grumpy was out back mowing.  I was probably home a good hour before I finally went outside to see how far he had gotten.
He was probably more than a little half done and was out there another good hour.  While he was out mowing, I was in the living room, on my love seat, trying to edit some photos for future posts when Chubby decided his mom needed comforting.....even if it was a hot over 80 some degree day.
I love how he stretches his little white paw up to hug his momma.  :)

We ended the day by heading over to visit our friends Jill & Brian for a few hours.  Not a bad ending but still a sad day for me.  The last message of my day on my phone though brightened me up.
Chris and Justin had headed over to visit Momma & Poppa and Chris texted me a photo of my happy mom...getting to hug my Chris :)  Best site ever.

Sunday with the Grumpy's 7.6.14

Another Sunday is here already.  Are you ready to see what Grumpy and I have to share with you this week?

It seems kind of silly that I get excited about a turkey in our yard.  We had turkeys in our yard all the time back home.  However, these turkeys have baby chicks and this week we got a shot hence my excitement!
I'm pretty pleased with this photo - I took it through our glass door and Grumpy says we were about 40 yards from the birds.  Turned out pretty good considering the circumstances!

We also have had some really hot and muggy weather.  Here is Kitty Girl.  The old girl flopped out on the deck all pooped from the heat and her hunting adventures.  Recently she got a red squirrel!  I wasn't home to see it (thank god) but Grumpy was pretty shocked that the she had it in her.  I can't stand it when she brings a mouse home to show me.  Seeing her bring a squirrel home would about kill me and freak me out at the same time. ha ha.
Next up is Rudy.  How he can lie in the sun with the humid heat and his fur coat beats me.  However, that is exactly what he did as you can see.  He slept like this for hours.  He didn't even notice I was near him taking shots with the camera he was that out.  The sun in the humidity we have had would not find me snoozing comfortably with a fur coat on!
Meet TommyBoy Fat Cat.  This cat belongs to Grumpy's dad and step-mom.  We took a much needed short vacation and went to visit Grumpy's family up near Clayton, NY for the holiday.  I could not seem to catch this cat in a great position in good lighting - every time he got in the sun, he wouldn't sit still for a second.  I had to lighten this photo up quite a bit to be able to see him like you do here.
We went into Clayton for dinner on the 4th and while there were no fireworks there, we had dinner out on the river.  Being on the river was probably the best part of the evening here because dinner was nothing to talk about.  I was sad to have a not so great dining experience on our trip home because I would have loved to told you we found an awesome place to eat here.  I did get some pretty great shots of the sunset on the St. Lawrence.  Check out the water/sunset photos!
Sunset on the St Lawrence River #sunset

A walk down to the park brought us to this sight.  Now that's an amazing and huge private yacht!
I even was lucky enough to get a shot of a ship coming through just near the end of the sunset.
The weekend did not come and go without me actually baking something.  I saw my mother in law had some blueberries in the fridge and asked what she was planning to do with them.  I thought muffins and then she thought coffeecake.  Its been a while since I made my favorite blueberry coffeecake, so I went with that because she had all the ingredients for it.
It was so good :)

I hope you and your family spent some great times together over this holiday weekend and left with great memories.  I know it was good for Grumpy to get to spend some time with his.  A part of the healing he needs go through with these latest events in our life.  He is already on the road to feeling better and that only means it will be just a matter of time before he finds another job that he can love as much as this last one. Thanks for stopping by and see you next Sunday with hopefully some more awesome photos to share!

For the Love of Grumpy

Just so its clear. I love my Grumpy. Yes, he may have the nick name Grumpy, but in all honesty, over the last 14 years, that Grumpy has mellowed out a lot. Or else I have just gotten used to him. ;) He is definitely the love of my life and I am not afraid to let you all know. He is my entire being. Its just him and me on a daily basis with a sprinkling of our loved ones every one and a while. Don't get me wrong, we would love our family in our life on a much more regular basis, but when you are so far apart from one another, its not the easiest thing to accomplish.
Just so there is no thinking that this deep love is one sided see above :)  Yes.  He calls me Buzzy and yes he gets away with it.  Its his term of endearment and that is ok with me because I know he loves me and he tellsl me in different ways.  Most of the time those ways are not put into any kind of words so when it happens, I get proof.  ;)  I woke up to find this on our fridge the other morning.  Grumpy is going through such a rough time with the loss of his job.  So, to me, letting me know he loves me in this way, is even more special.

Yes.  I. DO. love. that. man. of mine.

In case I haven't mentioned this before, I will mention it again.  I love my new home.  I really love our location, especially as everything is coming to life and the trees are blooming. We have so much nature in our yard that Grumpy and I have both taken to taking photos of it.  Today I want to share with you photos I took this week.  We had beautiful weather for the most part and for most of the week we were quite warm. This morning its on the chilly side to be outdoors waiting to shoot photos of our nature but the sun is out, the birds are singing so I got out there to take a couple of shots and did get a photo of a Blue Jay.  We have Cardinals that I am dying to get a photo of, as well as hummingbirds, but no luck yet.
This is our back yard as you look off to the left side of our deck.  Our home is on a hill and the yard slopes down (thankfully for the drainage!).  In the back to the right where you see the flowering tree, there are several pines and a nice apple tree.  Down to the left past where we mow, there are several more apple trees.  Loving these trees.  :)
I'm noticing the new growth on the pines and really loving that also.  There is something about a pine tree, the pine scent, and the soft new needles that are so alluring to me.  That little pine in the center of the yard is so cute.  Next to it are some Peonies.  I am not sure what color they are, we will find out in the next few weeks though I am sure!  The birdbath to the right (sitting next to a stump for now) is one that was here and that Grumpy cleaned up and painted.  Gotta keep our birdies fed and happy and clean you know!
I really don't know what to call the front of back of this house.  What you are seeing here is the view from the deck looking towards our driveway.  I guess I call this the back - the front I haven't taken photos of because we are rarely in that area.  In any case, as you can see, we are hidden by trees and we are loving it completely!  What a change from the last almost 4 years in what we called the sardine can at Elm Estates.
I've seen hummingbirds around, saw them this morning, so I tried to catch a shot of one.  I set my camera up on automatic setting to snap shots of movement but no such luck.  This hummingbird feeder is hanging from our deck.  I can't get photos straight on too easily so I extended my camera as high as I could on the tripod and set it to shoot.  Still, a pretty cool photo of our hummingbird feeder.  Ha!
I was lucky enough to catch this Blue Jay feeding this morning.  I am going to see what we can find at Farm & Tractor today to get those Cardinals over in my camera shot range.  We have a male and female one and they are so beautiful!
I think this Moon shot was last Wednesday night (May 14th).  Grumpy had mowed about half the yard and came in for dinner.  I made burgers on the grill and while we were outside, I noticed how gorgeous the moon was.  I had never used my night setting on my camera so tried it out with this shot.  I love how it turned out.  Beautiful!  By the way, in case your wondering, I think its probably a 5 hour job to get our entire yard mowed.  Yeah.  We have that much yard!
Another thing I am totally stoked for is this Whole Foods Market.  Grumpy and I went to Colonie Center yesterday to do a little bit of shopping for our trip to my brother's house and when we got there, they had the exterior done.  I can't believe how fast this has come together in the last few weeks.  Whole Foods Albany opens next week and I'm so excited!  I'll get to take my mom and dad there to check it out when they are here, they are going to love it!
Last, but not least, my beautiful baby boy.  That Rotten Rudy Rut-ton who has stolen both his Mom and Dad's heart.  He is doing what he loves best.  Lying on our chairs in front of the sliding glass door, soaking up the sun.

I am looking forward to a great week this week!  I work 4 days and then am on vacation until June 3.  Woo Hoo!  I also have a post coming out this week for a treat I made with the Asian Pears that came in our Field Goods bag last week and a couple more yummy recipes in the works.  Have a great week and see you next Sunday!

Happy Mother's Day Moms!
Ok, now isn't that just about the most adorable thing you've seen ever?  Christopher texted me earlier this week with two photos of this adorable little baby who was rescued by a friend.  I immediately fell in love with this fella and I can't even cuddle him.  Poor me.  Lucky Christopher.  Even luckier, Christopher's friend!
Just look at that baby.  He loves to lie on his tiny little back from the looks of it and how adorable is that. When I asked Christopher what his name was, he told me he was named AC because he had been found outside by the AC unit.  I'm so happy this baby was saved!
Here is a really fun food I got in my Field Good's bag this week.  Popcorn on the Cob!  It was amazing.   When I heard it start to pop I started to get excited to see how it turned out and I was not disappointed!  I would have my popcorn like this every time if I could!  I had such an awesome bag this week!  A little butter and all was perfect.  :)
This is Grumpy's handiwork.  While I was prepping dinner last night he was playing with my camera.  I constantly have it on the tripod by our sliding glass door so I can take photos from the window or take it out easily on the deck.  Now that we live in the midst of nature again, we have become more and more interested in photographing the wildlife around us.  Finally, after 3 weeks of having a hummingbird feeder, we have hummingbirds in our back yard also.   We saw a big ole chubby bunny last night as we were sitting at the table on the deck with our dinner.
The perfect ending to the day will be with a fire in the fire pit!  We have had a lot of dead old branches to get rid of that we have gathered in this huge yard of ours.  I'm not sure how long this place was empty before we finally got it, but I can tell you that the vegetation really needs attention.  Grumpy's been doing a lot of pruning dead stuff away.  I think our yard here is as big if not bigger than the one we had back home.  I can tell you it has taken him a total of 3 or probably more hours of work just to mow it.

That is our week pretty much in a nutshell other than working every day.  Work itself is so busy that I barely have time to think about taking a walk to the ladies room.  At least my day goes by quickly.  Sometimes it can feel so overwhelming but I honestly think I'm just really needing a vacation, and that is coming soon!
Have a great week!  If I have time next week, I'll recap some fun things again next Sunday morning.  Oh yeah, and before I leave....I can't forget to share a photo of my own baby.  :)  That Rotten Rudy Rut-ton.  I love him so!  He is sunning himself under the dining room table the funniest places our babies will like to lay!

Churro Waffles, No Cook Fudge, and Snowy Sunday Happenings

I have a few different things to share with you today as well as those yummy Churro Waffles.  Believe it or not, I took that photo with my phone.  Turned out pretty good for a phone pic!  I'll tell you more about the waffles at the end of the post.  I have some other things I'm really "itching" to share with you today.  ;)

I get all of my updates for Bobby over at Blogchef.net through email.  I open every single one of his emails.  Mainly because he doesn't make anything I wouldn't want to eat.  Everything looks so delicious over there!  In any case, I opened up his post for No Cook Fudge and since the fudge looked so awesome, I decided to read how it was made.  I'm usually a boiled fudge kind of person but sometimes I'll go for one that is made with marshmallows and chocolate chips.  Well, I decided yesterday as I was cleaning cupboards and packing up for our move this week, that I would take my coconut oil and peanut butter and just use it and recycle the jars instead of taking them with me.  This picture is what I found when I opened the fridge at 5 am to get my coffee and creamer out.
I'm pretty sure there are NO MICE in my fridge, so it had to be Grumpy who decided to nibble on my fudge like that.  I then looked out the window to see how much snow damage we had.  After all, we are moving this week and a lot of snow is not going to make it fun.  This is what I saw.
Seriously?  What did I do to deserve that?

After Grumpy and I came in from cleaning up all that white stuff, he went to our bedroom and then told me to come down.  I knew immediately that he wanted me to see something (get your mind out of the gutter) ;)  I asked him if it was picture worthy as I grabbed my cell phone and swiped for the camera as quickly as I could.  This is what he wanted me to see.  No need to cover your eyes.
All three kitties sleeping on my side of the bed.  I didn't have the heart to make them move to make it since we've already taken the spare bedroom apart for the move and they can't sleep in there.

This week, we will be making our move.  Tomorrow morning we go to the closing and by the afternoon we will be new homeowners again.  Something that has been a long time coming for us!

Now before I leave, I will tell you about these waffles.  I found them over at Chica Chocolatina Bakeshop.   I can't call them Churro myself for the fact that I didn't put the cinnamon sugar coating on.  However, I made the waffle recipe as it was written on the blog and this is the second time in just a few weeks I've made them.  That ought to be enough to tell you that the recipe is a keeper.  One day, I may make them and do the cinnamon sugar, but we are pure maple syrup lovers here and as long as I have it on hand, that will be our topping.

Head on over to Chica Chocolatina to get her recipe.  Let her know I sent you when you visit!  You can also find her on facebook.

I wasn't going to post this Ice Cream at all.  However I have some things I want to say today and my Ice Cream fits appropriately with some of my thoughts.  :)

I want to tell you about my favorite person who works at Bruegger's Bagel Shop on Wolf Road in Albany.  I will stop there sometimes in the morning to grab a "Skinny Everything Bacon, Egg white, Swiss Cheese sandwich with sun dried tomato spread".  Lordy, that is a mouthful but SO delicious.  However, that sandwich is not the entire star of the show here.

Spicy BBQ Chicken Crescents (Weight Watcher Points Plus = 4)

On work nights, sometimes quick and easy is the only way to go.  With our busy lives, we can be eating dinner as late as 7 pm so making a homemade meal can be very challenging during the week.  In comes Pillsbury Crescent Rolls to the rescue.
All you need is some cooked shredded chicken, bbq sauce, frank's red hot, colby cheese and crescent rolls.  I had a couple of chicken breasts I had already cooked so I shredded 1 of them and that equaled about 1 cup.  You could always use the ever convenient rotisserie chicken if you want to save yourself cooking the chicken ahead of time.

These worked out pretty well for me and would be a great item to feed guests at a party - kids and adults alike!

This recipe is adapted from Pillsbury's BBQ Chicken Crescents found on allrecipes.com.

I have worked out the Weight Watcher's Points Plus using their Recipe Builder and these are 4 WW Points per crescent.  Enjoy!

and MY Uncle :-)  You can't tell I am proud can you?

You can read about this honor bestowed upon my uncle here, but let me tell you some things that the paper can't tell you.

Uncle David is my Nanny's baby boy.  I am Nanny's first grandbaby.  I have been told stories about how my Uncle David absolutely loved me when I was born.  Well who wouldn't?  Love a baby that is. ;)  However, even though when I got older, he had his fun teasing me, when I was a teen and away at a boarding school he would type me letters from his work typewriter to send off to me.  When I think about it now, that really tells me just how much he loved me.  Then when he found out I was going to have surgery to replace 2 disc in my neck, he called me, so concerned and worried about whether I was doing the right thing and that had me in tears knowing his concern.  There is no doubt in my mind.  My Uncle David loves me.  And I love my Uncle David.  He is a kind hearted man who never wants to do anything but help someone in need.  He also is a fun guy who loves to tease and laugh and joke.  While I can't be home to celebrate this honor with our family and friends, I can certainly let everyone in the internet world know about him and share  his honor with you!

I love you Uncle David.  My heart overflows when I think of you and how much you care.  I will never, ever forget.  Congratulations on your success!!!  XOXOXO  Shelby Mae Lou Law :) aka Sister Sue (don't know where that came from) and Bontonelle (a nickname bestowed upon me by my uncles because I reminded them of my dad's youngest sister Bonnie).

Always in my heart

Nine years ago today I lost a piece of my heart.  It breaks my heart to not have Nanny with me and I still think about her every. single. day.  She had such an impact on my life, who she was and how she was.  I'll never forget how she went on to everyone who would listen to her about the first pie I ever made and how it was the "best rhubarb pie" she had ever eaten.  I'm sure some of that was because I was her special little girl, her first grand baby.  Not that I'm any more special than all those who came after me.  I'm sure she had a special relationship with each and every one of her grandchildren.

Weekend mornings hopping in my car and driving around the corner to have breakfast with her, going shopping with her, making cookies and teddy bears, watching the Guiding Light and having dinner together when we were both alone.    She had the most beautiful and kind heart and she didn't like to see anyone hurt.  Nanny put up with a lot of "crap" from family issues - and I certainly gave her my own dose of it - but she took me into her heart and home and would have done anything for me because of her wonderful unconditional love.

I wish she were here today.  She would know that Grumpy and I are now married as well as her first great-grandson, Justin.  At least she knew that Justin and Kristina were together before she passed.  Grumpy and I were preparing to tell people that we were engaged to get married and just a week before we were to announce our engagement, she passed away.  She never knew that Grumpy was going to remain a permanent fixture in my life.  We didn't get to tell her.  She would be happy to know that Grumpy and I are still happily together after 12 years of being together and going on 8 of them married.  My Nanny.  I still have my memories but I sure wish I could cuddle up next to her again and smell the Avon Rich Moisture cream she wore every single day.  I just want to be held by her and feel the comfort of her love.  I miss her so much.

I'm sure he misses me.
Even though he has probably slept most of his day away
However, I'm sure he is showing Chubby the affection he's not shown me all week long.
But I'm pretty positive he can't wait for me to get home.
although he may punish me for a little while and not want to crawl under the covers with me for a night or to...
or maybe not...since he does seem to be attached to me like GLUE
I can't help but think he must have felt like this all week.  :*(
and I'm sure he has wished I was home so he could be right where he thinks he belongs...
snuggle bugging with his momma....
and while I can't wait to see my Rotten Little Rudy Rut-ton
(and of course Chubby and Kitty....but Rudy is my baby....)
I really can't wait to see these guys....in a couple of weeks.
The bestest and goofiest kids in the whole wide world
I'm coming home.  :)
