I’m pretty sure you stopped by this page to find out a little bit about me, my blog, and what I’m doing here on the world wide web!
First of all, let me tell you a little bit about how Grumpy’s Honeybunch came about!
December 27, 2007 I was at home feeling nostalgic. Christmas had come and gone and I was still on holiday break from my job. We were empty nesters and I was having that lost mom syndrome. So, I started to write. My Nanny (Mae Iris Whitton) is my inspiration. She and I were as close as close could be and I was heartbroken over also having lost her as a part of my daily life. I decided that my kids would have more than just memories in their mind of me after I was gone. They would have words written down by me that they could go back to and read over and over again.
How did I come up with the blog name?
Grumpy is not a morning person, whereas I am. We are complete opposites in so many ways that it is a miracle we live peaceably together! One day, after he woke up, he sauntered into the kitchen where I was making coffee. I had already been awake a few hours, but hearing that he was awake, got busy with our caffeine fix. The first words he said to me when he walked into the kitchen were “I’ve never met anyone so chipper in the morning.” My immediate response was, “and I’ve never met anyone so GRUMPY in the morning!”
Grumpy’s terms of endearment have never been the sweet lovey dovey kind of terms. He would usually come out with “your just an old buzzard!” Hence, how the nickname “Buzzy” came to be. When he would say this to me I would respond with “No, I’m a honey bunch!” Hence, when I started to write this blog, it seemed appropriate to call it Grumpy’s Honeybunch as that is how I really wanted to be remembered! In his defense (for those of you who may be offended by being called an old buzzard), he says it in the most loving way 😉
Grumpy’s Honeybunch is a food blog/family diary!
While the blog didn’t start out as a food blog, it eventually evolved into one rather quickly. I love to bake and cook and one of the things I loved to do the most was make Nanny’s cookie recipes. You will find several on the blog and you can also subscribe to my newsletter and obtain a free Soft Cookie e-book of Nanny’s original recipes once you confirm subscription!
What type of recipes will you find on the blog?
Grumpy’s Honeybunch is a mish mash of recipes that are healthy, not so healthy, low fat, low sugar or sugar free, and as of late, ketogenic. So, whatever you are looking for, you can very likely find it here! I always have been a fan of Cooking Light and Weight Watcher recipes and you will find several of those on the blog. I started the Keto diet in October 2017 and this is the way I eat for the most part. I have a good almost 11 years worth of recipes on the blog, so I’m pretty certain you can find something you like!
My original Tag Line – Who she loves, what she loves, what she loves to do!
I love my family. My husband, my sons, their families (be it human or animal!), our fur babies, and our friends! I not only love to cook. I love to travel, hike, go 4-wheeling, fishing, and hunting. I love to photograph food, nature, and people. You will find several posts about our cats, posts with beautiful photos, posts about our vacation. So, while I do write recipes, I also will share our experiences in our daily life that my not include a recipe. I would not object to working with any brands relating to our activities and hobbies!
Working with Brands and Creating Recipes
Allrecipes.com was a big part of me getting started with my blog also. Not so much the website, but rather, people I met as a result of being a member of that website. Some of those people had created blogs, which was what made me decide I too would create one for the reasons listed above. A little later, I became an Allrecipes Allstar and met several more like minded people. This was my first experience working with any type of brand, and of course, back then, it was all voluntary.
As my blog progressed over the last several years, I became acquainted with other bloggers, became a member of several different communities and have been involved with Sunday Supper Movement as a member and employee, am an Ambassador for CK Mondavi and Family as well as an Influencer for Certified Angus Beef ® brand, and the NY Beef Council. I look forward to working with more brands in the future and maybe you can become one of them!
Brands that I work with: Certified Angus Beef, CK Mondavi Wines, SundaySupper Movement,Florida Strawberries, Perdue, Freida’s Specialty Produce, Idaho Potatoes, Smuckers, Ball Park Finest, and Wisconsin Cheese. For a complete list, a media kit is provided upon request.
I would love to branch out and start working with brands that deal with other areas that I like to talk about/discuss. Nature sports (hunting, fishing) and travel. You may see some of that in the future as the blog continues to grow and spread out!
Do you really eat all the food you make?
Yes! I most certainly do! In the beginning I would make muffins that I would post on the blog and once Grumpy and I had our share (usually 2 for him and 1 for me!), I would take the rest to my office to share. Family members, neighbors, close friends, they have all at some point in time eaten the food I’ve created on this blog. For the most part, now that we don’t have family close by, I tend to create recipes that will feed 2-3 people which usually is 1 meal for Grumpy and I and maybe lunch for me the next day. So yes, I really do eat all the food I make!
I hope you will continue on this journey with me as I head into my 12th year of blogging. Be sure to stop by, leave a comment and let me know what you think! 🙂
